An App Idea for People with Too Many Hobbies to Choose From
A decision-and-rotation app that helps people with many interests pick, timebox, and cycle through hobbies without guilt or overwhelm.
I have so many interests that I don't even know which one to make a hobby out of.
As conveyed in the title, there are just so many things i would like to try or to excel in. I could name at least 10 things i could make a hobby out of, and i just know it'll burn me out, but i also fear that if i focus on just one or two hobbies, I'll feel like I should've started one of the other hobbies earlier. I'm really lost, so is there anyone in the same boat, or someone who has found their way around this?
The problem, in the searcher’s words
I have so many interests I want to turn into hobbies — drawing, writing, singing, dancing, producing, piano, poetry, reading, gym, journaling, learning languages — that I can't decide which one to actually commit to. If I try to do them all I know I'll burn out, but if I only pick one or two I'm scared I'll always wonder if I should've started one of the others sooner.
I keep collecting more hobby ideas instead of starting any of them, and I don't know how to narrow it down without feeling like I'm giving something up. Is there a way to organize all these interests so I don't feel overwhelmed or stuck in analysis paralysis?
What the thread shows
Multiple commenters independently describe the same hobby-overload and decision-paralysis pattern and share improvised coping systems (randomizers, timeboxed trials, hobby cycling), confirming the pain is common but not something anyone in the thread is currently paying to solve.

“I have many hobbies and I want to do it all.”
“Writing ideas down gave me permission to ignore them for a while without feeling like I was losing them.”
“I have adhd and a million hobbies that rotate.”
Target customer
Who
Multi-passionate, often neurodivergent people with a long list of creative or self-improvement interests (art, music, languages, fitness, writing) who struggle to commit to one hobby.
Context
They hit this problem when starting a new season of free time or motivation and are faced with 5-10+ things they want to try, triggering fear of burnout if they do everything and fear of regret/FOMO if they pick only one or two.
What to build
- Add and tag all hobbies of interest, including effort/cost/barrier-to-entry
- Randomizer or weighted picker to choose the next hobby to try
- Timeboxed trial periods (e.g. 3 months) with automatic review prompts
- Simple journal/notes per hobby to log enjoyment and progress
- Rotation scheduler to cycle between multiple 'active' hobbies instead of forcing one choice
Build note — No specific data sources or integrations required for MVP; screen-time blocking apps mentioned in the thread (Focusme, Jomo) could be a later integration point rather than a core dependency.
Later, if it lands
Who’s already out there
Gamified habit and task tracker that turns goals and routines into an RPG-style game.
Gap: Helps maintain habits you've already committed to, but does nothing to help someone decide which of many competing hobbies to start or how to rotate between them.
Screen-time and app-blocking software that restricts distracting apps to certain times or durations, named by a commenter as their way of freeing up time for hobbies.
Gap: Solves distraction/screen time, not the underlying problem of deciding which hobby to pursue; also a paid tool, which one commenter flagged as a drawback.
iPhone app that limits access to chosen distracting apps with increasing wait times before you can open them again.
Gap: Also addresses screen-time reduction, not hobby selection or organizing multiple interests into a manageable system.
Demand read
The thread shows recurring, corroborated pain around hobby overload and decision paralysis, but no one describes paying or being willing to pay for a tool that solves this specific problem; the only monetary comment ('so unfortunate that the app cost money') is pushback against paying, and it's about an unrelated screen-time app.
Worth digging into before you build
4 to considerNo idea is a sure thing at this stage — these are open questions worth checking yourself, not a verdict against building it.
Weak Demand
No willingness-to-pay signals for a hobby-decision tool exist in the thread; the one cost-related comment is a complaint about a paid screen-time app, not evidence of demand for this idea.
Generic Idea
A hobby-picker/rotation tool overlaps heavily with the saturated habit-tracker and productivity-app category, making differentiation and SEO ranking difficult.
Not Software Solvable
The core pain (FOMO, fear of regret, decision paralysis) is largely psychological/behavioral; commenters' effective fixes (mindset shifts, 'just pick one,' low-barrier starts) are advice-based rather than tooling gaps.
