Notes application recommendations.

Hi everyone! Switched to samsung from iphone recently. Please recommend a good notes app alternative for apple notes. I need similar features such as basic formatting, highlighting, combined text, checklists and basic table functions. Preferably free but may consider paid apps. Visuals may be different so long as functions can compare to the apple notes app.

The problem, in the searcher’s words

I just switched from iPhone to Samsung and I miss Apple Notes. I need a replacement that has the same basic stuff — text formatting, highlighting, combined text with images, checklists, and simple tables.

It doesn't have to look the same, I just need the functions to work the same way. I'd rather use something free, but I'd consider paying if the app is actually good.

What the thread shows

A single user articulates a specific feature-parity need after switching platforms, but the thread got zero comments, so there's no corroboration that this is a widespread or urgent problem.

Target customer

Who

People switching from iPhone to Android (specifically Samsung, in this case) who relied on Apple Notes for daily note-taking.

Context

Right after the platform switch, they lose access to Apple Notes and need a comparable app with formatting, highlighting, checklists, and tables — ideally free.

What to build

  • Rich text formatting (bold, italic, highlight)
  • Checklists with tap-to-check items
  • Basic table insertion and editing
  • Combined text and image notes
  • Free tier covering all core features

Build note — Would need to compete directly with apps already pre-installed or free on Android (Samsung Notes, Google Keep, OneNote). A migration/import tool from Apple's .notes export format could be the main differentiator, but this isn't validated by the thread.

Who’s already out there

Samsung Notes
high

Native note app pre-installed on Galaxy devices; supports text formatting, checklists, tables, and PDF export.

Gap: Already covers most of what OP listed, which is likely why the thread got no engagement — the felt need may already be addressed by the phone's default app.

Google Keep
high
Visit

Free, cross-platform note app with labels, reminders, and basic checklists.

Gap: No built-in table support, which OP specifically required.

Microsoft OneNote
high
Visit

Free, cross-platform notebook app with rich formatting, tables, checklists, and highlighting.

Gap: Feature-complete match for OP's needs, but heavier notebook/section UI than a simple flat notes app like Apple Notes.

Demand read

The only signal is a conditional, low-conviction openness to paying, paired with an explicit preference for free tools, so this thread doesn't establish durable paid demand.

Worth digging into before you build

5 to consider

No idea is a sure thing at this stage — these are open questions worth checking yourself, not a verdict against building it.

Thin Source

Post is a few lines with zero comments; not enough material to validate demand or scope.

Single Voice

Only the OP describes the need; no commenters corroborate or add detail.

Generic Idea

Note-taking apps are a saturated category with strong free incumbents (Samsung Notes, Google Keep, OneNote) already covering OP's stated needs.

Weak Demand

OP explicitly prioritizes free options ('Preferably free but may consider paid apps'), indicating weak willingness to pay.

Unsupported Field

competitors: gaps are inferred from general knowledge of these apps' feature sets, not from thread discussion, since there are no comments comparing tools.
