Time management app for task tracking and daily planning

A task-and-calendar planner that lets users choose their preferred level of automation, from fully manual time-blocking to AI auto-scheduling.

Favorite time management apps?

I’m probably going to look myself but wanted to look at suggestions and what is already popular or used the most and see what works best for me. Thank you guys.

The problem, in the searcher’s words

Someone wants to be 'more organized' and plan out their day but isn't sure what kind of tool to use — task tracking, calendar blocking, or usage reporting all get lumped together as 'time management.' They're not chasing a specific missing feature; they're overwhelmed by the number of options and just want to know what actually works for other people.

Responses show the space is crowded with strong, opinionated tools: some people want auto-scheduling and AI ('link your calendar and it takes care of the rest'), others explicitly reject automation and want full manual control (time-block booklets, Sunsama), and others just use their calendar as the single source of truth. There's no single unmet need here — different searchers want opposite things (more automation vs. less).

What the thread shows

The thread shows an active, satisfied user base already spread across several established paid tools (TickTick, Motion, Reclaim.ai, Sunsama, Akiflow) rather than a clear unmet need — most commenters are recommending, not complaining.

Task tracking but really anything useful for being more organized or planning out my day

I have tried a lot of different task managers over the years, but the one that has stuck with me is TickTick. It offers more features than some of its competitors, and at a cheaper price.

I’ve ended up on TurboHog the past few months. I like that it just manages my tasks and calendar and doesn’t try to be the everything app with AI everywhere.

Any calendar works. For me it's a lot simpler and efficient to just track my tasks on my calendar.

Target customer

Who

Individuals (often knowledge workers) trying to organize daily tasks and time who are shopping for their first or next planning app

Context

They hit this problem when their current method (mental tracking, paper, or a basic to-do list) stops feeling organized enough, and they start researching what tool category — task manager, time-blocking, or calendar-based — fits their style

What to build

  • Two-way calendar sync (Google Calendar at minimum)
  • Simple task list with due dates and daily task cap (e.g. 'max 5 tasks/day' style constraint some users want)
  • Manual time-blocking view for users who don't want automation
  • Optional auto-scheduling toggle for users who want tasks placed automatically

Build note — Two-way calendar sync (Google Calendar, possibly Outlook) is table stakes based on commenter expectations; auto-scheduling logic is the differentiating but hardest-to-build component and where existing tools (Reclaim.ai) reportedly have reliability issues.

Later, if it lands

AI prioritization/ordering of tasks (mentioned as a differentiator by one commenter)Habit tracking and pomodoro timer add-onsCollaboration/shared task featuresMood/energy-aware task suggestions (avoid demanding tasks on low-energy days)

Who’s already out there

TickTick
high
Visit

Task manager with habit tracker, pomodoro timer, notes, attachments, and collaboration features

Gap: Not an auto-scheduler; doesn't do the 'plan my day in time-slots' automation some searchers want

Motion
high
Visit

AI-focused task and calendar auto-scheduler

Gap: Heavy AI focus is a turn-off for users who want a simpler, non-AI-everywhere tool

Reclaim.ai
high
Visit

Auto-schedules tasks into Google Calendar with two-way sync, owned by Dropbox

Gap: One user found its auto-scheduling 'weird/unreliable'

Sunsama
high
Visit

Time-block-focused daily planner requiring manual scheduling of tasks

Gap: No automation, which is a dealbreaker for users who want the app to do the scheduling for them

Demand read

Multiple commenters describe long-term use of paid task/calendar tools (TickTick, Motion, Reclaim.ai, Sunsama, Akiflow), showing people already pay for this category — but the crowded field means new entrants face steep differentiation pressure.

Worth digging into before you build

3 to consider

No idea is a sure thing at this stage — these are open questions worth checking yourself, not a verdict against building it.

Already Solved

Commenters name several established, well-liked paid tools (TickTick, Motion, Reclaim.ai, Sunsama, Akiflow) that already cover task tracking and time-blocking; reviewer should check if any real gap remains.

Generic Idea

Time management/task tracking is a saturated app category; page unlikely to rank or differentiate against incumbents named in the thread.

Unsupported Field

build.mvp_scope is inferred from scattered commenter preferences rather than a clearly articulated gap; treat as speculative.
