Too tired to eat, too hungry to work

When I come home from work Im dead tired, but it's not from work fatigue. Im the kind of guy who will come home tired from work but after 30 minutes of rest I can get up and do whatever I want; I get energy back fast. However recently i'd come back from work and just be dead tired the whole time and get nothing done till I sleep. But the reason isn't fatigue; it's because I come home from work with 0 appetite and just can't eat. Like the idea of eating just irks me, idk why. But on the few days where I CAN stomach a meal, I get all my energy back quick. So im not tired; i just have no fuel in my system from food. And it's become this vicious cycle where it's like Im too tired to eat, but I need to eat to get back my energy, but I can't eat so I don't get back my energy etc. Has anyone else gone through something like this? What can I do? I HATE sitting in my bed knowing the answer is so simple, just eat and be productive again, but my body just can't push itself at the thought of even a nimble of food, let alone a meal.

The problem, in the searcher’s words

Come home from work completely drained, but it's not muscle fatigue - it's that you have zero appetite so you skip dinner, and then you have no fuel to actually recover. You know eating would fix it, but the thought of food makes you feel worse in the moment, so you just sit there exhausted instead.

It turns into a loop: too tired to cook or even eat, so you don't eat, so you stay depleted, so you're too tired the next day too. People describe forcing down protein bars, meal replacement shakes, or bananas just to break the cycle, and wonder if something else (dehydration, an acid issue, an underlying health problem) is actually driving the lost appetite.

What the thread shows

Several commenters recognize the same too-tired-to-eat cycle and share personal DIY workarounds (meal replacement shakes, protein bars, freezer meal prep), but no one names or asks for a paid app or software product - most advice points toward nutrition habits or seeing a doctor.

it's because I come home from work with 0 appetite and just can't eat. Like the idea of eating just irks me, idk why.

The hardest part is that hunger makes you too tired to cook, and not eating makes you even more tired. Sometimes you just have to break the cycle with the easiest food available.

I have this problem and the longer it goes on the worse it gets.

if this is something new it could be dehydration which kills appetite, or even an acid problem.

Target customer

Who

Working adults who come home from a shift so drained they lose their appetite and skip meals, worsening next-day fatigue.

Context

End of a workday, when they're physically and mentally depleted and can't motivate themselves to cook or eat, even though they know food would restore their energy.

What to build

  • Post-work push reminder nudging a quick, low-prep snack or shake before full exhaustion sets in
  • Library of zero-cook / near-zero-cook meal and snack ideas (protein bars, shakes, boiled eggs, freezer meals)
  • Weekly batch-cook planner geared toward freezer portions for 'can't cook tonight' days
  • Simple stock tracker for easy-grab snacks/shakes so users don't run out

Build note — The underlying cause in the thread is possibly physiological (dehydration, appetite loss, an eating pattern issue) rather than a scheduling problem - an app can nudge behavior and reduce friction to eating, but cannot diagnose or fix appetite loss itself. Any product framing should avoid implying it can address a medical symptom.

Later, if it lands

Grocery delivery integration for restocking easy snacks automaticallyOptional symptom log (hydration, appetite, energy) to spot patterns over timeWearable integration to detect fatigue/dehydration trends and trigger earlier reminders

Demand read

Commenters describe buying meal replacement shakes and protein bars as workarounds, but this is spending on existing food products, not evidence anyone would pay for an app; no one in the thread expresses interest in a software solution.

Worth digging into before you build

5 to consider

No idea is a sure thing at this stage — these are open questions worth checking yourself, not a verdict against building it.

Not Software Solvable

Core issue is physiological (appetite loss, possible dehydration/acid issue per commenters) - commenters recommend seeing a doctor, not using an app.

Sensitive Domain

Thread touches on appetite loss and possible underlying health causes; needs editorial review before publishing as a health-adjacent app idea.

Weak Demand

No willingness-to-pay signals in the thread; workarounds mentioned (shakes, bars) are existing food purchases, not app demand.

Generic Idea

Meal planning / easy-recipe reminder apps are a saturated category; this thread doesn't show a differentiated need beyond existing meal-prep and nutrition apps.

Unsupported Field

competitors: no software competitors are named or implied in the thread, so the list is left empty.
